Ford Drops Base Bronco For 2024, Making SUV More Expensive

Ford has adjusted the Bronco lineup for the 2024 model year, and one of the most significant changes is removing the Base trim level for the beloved SUV, which was initially introduced as a more Do-It-Yourself-friendly option for the off-road vehicle. Now, the entry-level grade is the Big Bend, the next level up from the base, but it directly contributes to a more expensive entry for the beloved Ford Bronco.

For 2023, the Base trim Ford Bronco made it possible for customers to get an entry into the Bronco line for just $34,890; however, with the removal of the entry model, the 2024 Ford Bronco now starts at $39,130, which is a pretty significant bump in price. By comparison, a 2024 Jeep Wrangler Sport 2-Door is just over $31,000 USD. In fact, one could have a very capable 2024 Wrangler Willys 2-Door for the price of a 2024 Bronco Big Bend.

With the (updated) Jeep Wrangler Willys, we see a Tru-Lok rear locker shared with the Wrangler Rubicon as standard, as well as standard steel rock sliders, trailer tow and heavy-duty electrical group. Perhaps more importantly for off-roading, larger 33-inch BFG KO2 tires are now standard on the Wrangler Willys, replacing the 32-inch set from before. Furthermore, all-new next-generation Dana 44 HD full-float rear axle – standard on Rubicon – is available on Willys.

That said, this move should allow Ford Motor Company to streamline the assembly process of the Bronco, thus cutting customer wait time. Reducing certain complexity has been a consistent effort seen by Ford and even General Motors for 2024 model-year products, as automakers seek out equilibrium between supply chain kinks, customer demand, and order mix.

Now that the Big Bend is the new entry-level version, the 16-inch steel wheels have been traded for the 17-inch set, wrapped in all-terrain tires measuring 32 inches in diameter. LED fog lamps are now standard for the most affordable trim, along with a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a larger 12-inch diagonal infotainment screen on the inside, replacing the old 8-inch unit. All of which should add more appeal to buyers of the off-road beast.

As for the rest of the range, the Black Diamond has a starting price of $42,630, whereas the Outer Banks is now $47,940. The Badlands, Heritage, and Wildtrak models start at $49,395, $47,855, and $60,025, respectively. The Everglades is returning for 2024 and will carry an MSRP of $55,520, and the Heritage Limited Edition has gone up to $69,685. As for the legendary 2024 Bronco Raptor, interested parties will be looking to shell out at least $89,835 before destination.

Other changes for the 2024 Ford Bronco include adding Velocity Blue and Shelter Green metallic exterior paint finishes for the Bronco Raptor and the Code Orange Package we previously reported.

Zac's love for cars started at a young age, after seeing the popular Eleanor from Gone In 60 Seconds. From there, fascination and enthusiasm blossomed and to this day the Ford Mustang remains a favorite. His first job started out detailing cars, but also provided the opportunity to work on restoration including an 1968 Ford Mustang, Ford Firebird, and a C3 Corvette, though he left that job before further work and experience could be had. From there, he was a detailer at a car dealership before quitting that job to try and finish college.

Much of his free time while studying was spent watching YouTube videos regarding new cars, or off-roading. 4WD247 is a personal favorite channel which rekindled a dying flame in car enthusiasm, now tailored towards trucks and SUVs and the fun that can be had building up an overlanding rig, and going on adventures, though, that chapter remains unwritten for the time being.
